Multilevel Mixed-Effects Models to Identify Contributing Factors on Freight Vehicle Crash Severity

نویسندگان

چکیده

Freight vehicle crashes are more serious than regular because they likely to lead major damage and injury once occur; therefore, countermeasures needed. The fatality rate from freight is 1.5 times higher that of all other accidents, the death expressway continues increase. In this study, ten-freight-vehicle crash severity models (the ordered logit probit model, multinomial mixed-effects random-effects multilevel model) used analyze factors. model was constructed using data collected expressways over eight years, 13 factors were derived increase 7 reduce crashes. As a result comparing 10 AIC BIC, showed best performance. It expected it can contribute improving safety vehicles in section by utilizing related study.

Using conditional inference forests to identify the factors affecting crash severity on arterial corridors.

INTRODUCTION The study aims at identifying traffic/highway design/driver-vehicle information significantly related with fatal/severe crashes on urban arterials for different crash types. Since the data used in this study are observational (i.e., collected outside the purview of a designed experiment), an information discovery approach is adopted for this study. METHOD Random Forests, which ar...

Exploring Single Vehicle Crash Severity on Rural, Two-lane Highways with Crash-level and Occupant-level Multinomial Logit Models

This thesis is conducted to compare a crash-level severity model with an occupantlevel severity model for single-vehicle crashes on rural, two-lane roads. A multinomial logit model is used to identify and quantify the main contributing factors to the severity of rural, two-lane highway, single-vehicle crashes including human, roadway, and environmental factors. A comprehensive analysis of 5 yea...

Investigating the Effects of Underreporting of Crash Data on Three Commonly Used Traffic Crash Severity Models: Multinomial Logit, Ordered Probit and Mixed Logit Models

Although a lot of work has been devoted to developing crash severity models to predict the probabilities of crashes for different severity levels, very few studies have considered the underreporting issue in the modeling process. Inferences about a population of interest will be biased if crash data are treated as a random sample coming from the population without considering the different unre...
